► Frequently Asked Questions |
How does this work?
Call, text, or email in your request or questions, at any hour. We will meet at whichever location(s) you have selected to tour. Details will be provided, once you have chosen a location or locations. You will be taken on a guided grave tour of either those pictured or those requested--you can customize your tour. Operating days and hours of each location varies.
Is transportation to the location(s) available?
Yes. If you are in need of transportation, it is available. You can be picked up and dropped off at the same or different locations.
Is there an age range, group size limitation, or any other restrictions?
Each grave tour is appropriate for all ages, any group size. The tours are suitable for those who can walk around for the duration chosen, including those pregnant. As with any tour, the larger the group, the less attention that can be given to each participant.
What kind of shoes should I wear?
Comfortable shoes are important, since this is a walking tour. We will be on pavement, up and down stairs, and on grass too, sometimes walking hillsides. Athletic shoes are best. Open toe shoes and heels will not work very well.
Will there be any restroom facilities at the locations?
Yes, each location should have an on-site restroom available.
May I take pictures or video?
The different locations have different policies regarding pictures and video, and can even result in different answers at the same location, depending on the person being asked. It is likely, however, that at all locations professional level photography or video, or something to be published, is not permitted without permission from the management. Use your own discretion. Video of the tour itself in progress, however, is not available.
Food and beverage
Bringing along snacks should not be an issue, although it's unlikely picnicking or catering is permitted on any premises, unless associated with a service. Bring along any beverage you wish, but please nothing with alcohol, which is probably not permitted.
May I bring flowers or something else?
Yes,
if you would like to leave flowers or something appropriate to commemorate someone, please do so. Most locations have a flower shop on the premises. It is completely up to you if you bring anything and not at all required.
Which are the easiest and most difficult locations?
Pierce Brothers Westwood is the easiest, with certainly the smallest property, no hills, few stairs, yet the highest number and percentage of people to show you--about 130, amounting to 1 in 40 graves. It is possible to walk across Pierce Westwood in under one minute. Forest Lawn Glendale is by far the largest property, but fewer people to show you, just over 60, which at this enormous property is 1 in 5160 graves. Pierce Westwood is 2.5 acres (0.01 km²). Forest Lawn Glendale is 300 acres (1.2 km²). It means Forest Lawn Glendale is 120 times larger in property size than Pierce Brothers Westwood, but fewer than half as many people to show.
Is it possible to combine more than one location?
Yes, if you are prepared to handle the additional walking, although we will drive between locations. It particularly makes sense for some locations that are nearby one another. Hillside and Holy Cross are a 5 minute drive apart. Forest Lawn Hollywood and Mount Sinai are a 5 minute drive apart. Pierce Brothers Westwood and Woodlawn Santa Monica are about a 15 minute drive apart. Forest Lawn Hollywood and Forest Lawn Glendale are about a 15 minute drive apart. Hollywood Forever is a 15 and 20 minute drive from Forest Lawn Hollywood and Forest Lawn Glendale. Home of Peace and Calvary are across the street from one another. Otherwise, these locations are a 30 to 50 minute drive from one another.
Where are the locations in relationship to the airport?
Hillside and Holy Cross are about a 10 minute drive from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
Pierce Brothers Westwood and Los Angeles National, which are near each other, are a 30 minute drive from LAX and so is Woodlawn Santa Monica. Hollywood Forever is a 45 minute drive from LAX. Forest Lawn Hollywood, Mount Sinai, and Forest Lawn Glendale are a 35 to 65 minute drive from LAX, depending on traffic--35 minutes if little traffic (weekends, evenings, although not necessarily), and up to about 65 minutes if it's in the middle of the day during the week. From Burbank Airport (BUR), the timing almost reverses, switching the nearer points with the farther points, since it is located nearest to Forest Lawn Hollywood. Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, Home of Peace, and Calvary are about a 30 minute drive from either LAX or BUR. Inglewood Park is 15 minutes from LAX and one hour and 15 minutes from BUR. Pierce Brothers Valhalla is one hour from LAX and 8 minutes from BUR. Eden, which is across the street from San Fernando Mission, is about 45 minutes from LAX and 15 minutes from BUR. Oakwood is about one hour from LAX and 45 minutes from BUR. |
